We recently vamped up our Experimental Factory with the installation of CNC machinery which includes the CNC Router, CNC Lathe & CNC Mill.
Here we take a closer look at the integrated functions of the CNC machinery currently operating in the Engineering Cell.
CNC Lathe & CNC Mill

Using both of these types of equipment we are able to machine a range of metals into components which are designed to a required specification.
The CNC Lathe (pictured above) is fully functional and mainly used on cylindrical work pieces to cut profiles, for example threading on screws. This machine is also able to rough turn, groove, bore and cut threads, to name a few applications.
Functions of the CNC Mill (pictured below) include drilling types of holes, smoothing surfaces and cutting shapes.

We are currently trialling different machining techniques such as milling and fly cut milling.
A qualified engineering tradesman will be able to identify which cutting tools to place on the machines & determine the ideal speed the machine should operate at by taking into account the type of materials used, depth of cutting required etc.
Learners using this equipment for upskilling and training purposes will be fully supervised and provided with all the necessary coaching to develop their competence in using the CNC Mill & CNC Lathe.
The CNC Router we have is currently set up for engraving/carving designs into medium density fiberboard (MDF).
Using AutoCAD, we can design our product prior to manufacturing. Alternatively, we can upload an image as the program is capable of identifying shades and tones to engrave 3D images.
The software we are currently using to manufacture products is DeskCNC, which is user friendly and fairly easy to use.

Wiseman Institute of Applied Learning recently took part as Solution Providers in the Next Generation Supply Chain Summit ANZ held on Tuesday 30 April to Thursday 2 May at the Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns.
A number of Vice Presidents, CEOs and top executives from a range of organisations joined the Summit participating in the event as Summit Delegates.
On behalf of Wiseman, Corporate Educators and Business Developers, Nik Payne & Daniel Beattie, attended the event and were given the opportunity to meet a number of Summit Delegates from various industries including:
• Manufacturing & Engineering
• Food & Agriculture
• Transport & Logistics
The Next Generation Supply Chain Summit ANZ is an internationally recognised conference with events running throughout the year across the Asia Pacific region. It is designed for organisations to network, share solution synopsises and initiatives to aid business growth and improve competitiveness on a global scale.
Wiseman Institute Representatives, Nik and Daniel hosted one on one meetings with 14 Summit Delegates where they put forward Wiseman’s learning solutions and discussed how our training programs and consulting could benefit Delegates’ organisational needs.
Over the three days, the NG Summit facilitated a number of activities for the Delegates and Solution Providers including one on one solution provider meetings, access to workshops and dinner gatherings for networking purposes. The event also included a guest speaker who discussed the power of social media and its benefits of strong communication and networks.
From the event, Wiseman has generated over 15 leads where organisations were briefed on our products and services and recognised the impact they could have on their business in a cost effective manner.
In a recent Forbes study, 92% of executives believe face-to-face meetings are crucial for stronger, more meaningful and profitable business relationships. This is the same belief and model held by Wiseman and is the current sales & marketing method used to strengthen our initial interaction with potential customers.
Overall, participating in the Summit was a rewarding experience for both Nik and Daniel.
“It was a great opportunity to be able to offer large scale organisations a valid product that fits in with their business needs,” said Nik Payne.
“These types of events are highly beneficial to businesses as they raise awareness of issues, some of which are not unique to a particular organisation. They also raise awareness of the different solutions available to assist, educate and train in Australian workplaces.”
Wiseman Institute is currently in the process of following up with the Delegates to further discuss training initiatives.

The Experimental Factory will promote a direct connection between education and work. Various training activities will be conducted with the machinery from group discussions, project work to one on one coaching.
“ Wiseman is taking education back to where it came from” said Wiseman Institute Managing Director, Dr. Joe Husidic.“This experimental factory will allow us to further integrate learning & working and further support our customers by constructing a learning environment within their workplace."
At this stage, the Experimental Factory is expected to be fully functional within 6-7 months.
